We meet the Mayans.....but first Belize City

The morning begins like a million of other mornings with the search for coffee. We find a bakery around the corner where I grab a cappuccino and Bill takes his black and pick up a sweet roll. We take a nice stroll along the coast pathway before we have to meet our driver. This time as oppose to renting a car, the hotel provided a man to act a driver and tour guide. I figured less hassle, bs and cost probably the same but with a colorful local person providing commentary. Our driver name is Bailey.

Hello's and introductions are made all around as Bailey tells us he will first take us on a tour of Belize City. By anyone's stretch of imagination Belize City is not a pretty city. In fact, it is downright ugly, run down and steeped in poverty. My apologies to those who only want pretty stories and photos of tropical paradises that fuel their travel lust but it is what it is. I have no photos because there was nothing of note to want to capture on film. The two interesting things we did see were a swing bridge and their version of a Cathedral. The swing bridge is the only bridge left in the world that is operated manually. Go figure. That is either kind of quaint or telling of the culture, I will let you decide. Actually, I will post a Cathedral photo. As for tb bridge, I could not find a photo showing I being opened manually.

I work up at about 1am to get a start to blogging about yesterday but now it a little after 2 so I am going back to sleep as we have a 6 am tour day starting tomorrow. To those who want to know where's Bill, well Bill fell asleep about 8 and is peacefully, gently snoring away a I type to feed the interest of the masses.
