We arrive and a mistake realized.

The night before the trip I came upon the realization that tomorrow is Daylight Savings Time. Had I know that at the time of booking the flight, I might have selected another day to travel. At the best of circumstances, getting ready before a trip is somewhat stressful and anxiety ridden. On this day, we had to concern ourselves with setting the clock back a hour. Thankfully, I set the alarm on my cell phone to 3 am for a wake up. That was important because your cell phone, like your computer automatically adjust itself to the new time. We were able to get an extra hour of sleep.

I cannot remember what time I fell asleep. I think is was 11pm. I slept amazingly straight through and woke up at the sound of the alarm well-rested. I got up, did the bathroom thing, packed my charged IPad, phone and chargers, woke Bill, turned back all the house clocks said our goodbyes to Sarah and off we went.....

The drive to the airport was quick and uneventful. As it was still dark, there was not much to see except the Brooklyn Museum. The museum's classical architecture gently lit up from below looks eerily quiet and lonely as it sits overlooking the boulevard.

We go to the gate easy, picked up some coffee and were good to go. American Airlines in no Jet Blue. The three across seats have so little leg room that when the person in front of me push back, I felt like my knees were in my chest. Thankfully, the flight was a little over two hours to Miami. I put on a Bogart movie downloaded from Itunes and the time flew bye. Bill took a nap.

Getting off the plane and walking to the next gate was a real time lesson in why you pack light. Like Chicago airport, the walk seemed endless. We finally found our gate, took turns going to the bathroom and I found a Starbucks for a medium white chocolate mocha which has two shots of expression. Bill went the macho route and did not want any more coffee. A nice couple from Hudson Valley chatted us up as we talked about our trips. They were doing a quick 5 day/4nights resort package as they had two kids. It is nice to talk with people.

We got off the plane, and made our way through customs. It was hot, hot and sunny. Bill was
tired but happy. A cab took us to the hotel for $25. Our hotel is an old Victorian colonial building. Raised from the road, the wrap around porch overlooks the gentle Caribbean current as the waves lap against the rocky shore. We are on the 4th floor and HUGE room, a/c, refrigerator, and a ton of closet space. The WiFi is iffy, oh well can't have everything all the time.

I sit here on the balcony, breeze blowing in, the sweet sound of children playing with their dogs, laughing in the water below feeling good about the start of another adventure. An auspicious sign, I feel that the gods favor our journey. It must be the luck of the "sun."

  1. Hey - I am really enjoying this blog! Are you really climbing those ba-zillion stairs? Before or after the rum?
